Working from home with the kids mainly home is quite the balancing act.

Their perspectives are very fact based as they don’t yet have the worries, or scope to know how things can get very tough.Īs it’s summer break right now, things are slowly getting better where we can socialize but many are not “there yet”. Kids are amazing and honestly the simplicity in how they see and explain things it so eye opening and sometimes what is adults need to hear. They often bring up how it’s tough not to see anyone, have play dates and normal activities but they focus on the plans we will make when the pandemic is under control. It’s amazing how when you take the time to explain things to kids, even when they are little, somehow, they just get it and adapt. But as the months passed I think we all adapted best we could and realized it was a time to reflect, go back to basics, pump the breaks on a life and reflect on where we filled our calendars -with stuff we didn’t want to do at time! WE had to realize that we had to take care of our emotional, physical and mental well being. Did I always believe it myself? Questionable. Some of these things do help the evenings go a little smoother.Īs many, I tried to navigate best I could for my sanity and my children, being there for them and assuring them things will get better soon. There have been some benefits though, no commuting and being stuck in traffic, being able to pick up the kids after school so they don’t go to after school program, on some occasions starting supper earlier than usual and getting homework done earlier as well. And if you have children, again, it adds on, the kids still have their schooling and homework, no socializing outside of school, parents constantly working, coping with stress, anxiety, the unknown as well as covid-19 scares, it’s well A LOT! All the interruptions cause delays in one’s work day and guess what? Yup, your tasks still need to get done! Most days are so filled and with the mentioned distractions it causes some stress and with limited access to normal life this can get a little heavy most days.

Somehow you end up working so much more and even if you don’t have physical interruptions as when being at the office the interruptions come in the form of instant messages, emails, video calls (many impromptu), meetings at all hours even during lunch and back-to-back, not to mention connection issues! Somehow people forgot that working hours are typically between 9 and 5, in which they should schedule accordingly. But working from home does come with many challenges. I managed to set things up which worked for my work life and my home life. This meant, like many, I had to set myself up for success at home, making an office area in my dining room and positioning everything accordingly. But yes thankfully we still kept our jobs! I went to the office a few times and then bam another lockdown which had us work indefinitely remote from home. Luckily, I found a job in November which was good timing -before the holidays and encouraging that things were slowly moving forward. And for those of you who have children it was an extra tough time…3 months lockdown with online learning and not seeing anyone or having help, activities etc it was tough to say the least.Īfter the fall with schools opening back up it was time to start the job search again. As the month’s followed, jobs were scarce and with everyone struggling, personally and professionally, it was a time to accept things were not going as planned. I have to say this was a little disappointing. During the interview i was told i would hear back either way but nope, they didn’t have the decency to touch base quickly after the interview for feedback etc. The last interview I went for didn’t pan out as they had shut down. This post is a little delayed but still valid in my opinion as things are starting to open back up slowly.īefore the pandemic I was actively searching for a new job and things were starting to roll until that lovely March day in Montreal, Quebec when we went into a complete lockdown.
